What is the purpose of the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG)?

The Grant is designed to encourage and assist home ownership by first home buyers in the Northern Territory.

What type of home qualifies for the Grant?

The home:

  1. must be situated in the Northern Territory;

  2. must be lawfully able to be used as a place of residence and be suitable for use for that purpose; and

  3. where applicable, the value of the home must not exceed the transaction eligibility threshold.
    (note: no threshold applies on new homes).

The grant is only be available to first home buyers who enter into a contract to construct or purchase a new home, or commence construction as an owner builder, on or after that date.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I'm ELIGIBLE FOR THE FIRST HOME OWNERS GRANT?

Simple - the Northern Territory Government has created an online eligibility test. It takes less than five minutes to complete and is accessible via the button below:

If your results indicate you may be entitled to receive the First Home Owner Grant, the site will ask that you complete a First Home Owner Grant application form and lodge it directly with your Elders Insurance Agent or your financier.
(note: if you use your own financier, they must be an approved FHOG agent)

Your application will then be directed to a written decision of the Commissioner of Territory Revenue.
